Porsché Mystique Steele: Author and Indie Publisher Shares Insights Into Writing a Book

Porsché Mystique Steele joins Yvonne DiVita on Smart Conversations to share her journey from editor to Mystique Rose Publishing, an Indie publishing company that values stories and quality production.

The author of The CEO Author series, which we cover in the video, Porsché, is a woman of action. She recognized her talent – helping people write books – and put it into action to create her own publishing company. It’s a familiar story to me, as I did the same.

One of the most powerful things about Porsché is her passion for stronger storytelling. She wants her authors to understand how to use their stories to build a foundation for their business.

The Power of The CEO Author

Porsché emphasizes the importance of combining personal stories and wisdom to create an impactful book. Her focus on owning her title, not just the book title but the URL and more, and using it to promote oneself, as she is doing with her CEO Author series and I am doing with The HOW TO WRITE A BOOK Book series, is one of the best ways to make your book project a success.

I want to stress the importance of integrity in writing and how Porsché’s book helps business owners expand their thought leadership through her example of true authenticity. Yes, I said the big words: thought leadership. Because that’s what you want when you write a nonfiction book. You want to be a thought leader in your space.

In order to do that, you must embrace your backstory. Porsché’s backstory is traumatic but full of hope and beauty, also. You will hear some of it in the interview.

Your Book, Your Story, Your Legacy

The discussion also focused on the importance of legacy in writing a book and how it can be used to grow a business or take a career to the next level. As many of you know, I’m big on the power of a book to build a legacy, as I share in this previous blog post: 20 Great Ideas To Write a Book About.

We talked about the process of writing a quality book with proper formatting and a nice cover and the benefits of writing a book series. (which all plays into legacy, folks – you want to be remembered for quality not quantity)

The most revealing part is the backstory. When you are open, honest, and authentic, as Porsché has been in her book and her life, the reader feels as if you’re talking just to them. As if they’re in the room with you and able to see your tears or laughter. Remember, I always tell people to bleed on the page for a reason!

Porsché shared insights on her upcoming book, which follows The CEO Author, and shared some of her experiences from her CEO Author’s Summit, an event that brought the book to life and offered more value to attendees than what was in the book. Added value always improves an event!

The summit featured experts who talked about establishing a personal brand, getting on the TEDx stage, leveraging press and media, and pitching a book for maximum monetization. The meeting ended on a positive note, with plans to reconnect for future projects.

Indie Publishing Done Right

In this dynamic and engaging conversation, we ended with the reason I had Porsché on the show. It wasn’t just because she’s so fantastically smart and that she and I think alike. Regarding legacy and quality in Indie Publishing, we want every author to have a book that is produced and looks as good as anything else on the bookshelf.

But also, because she’s got such a great smile, she’s so energetic, and her story is compelling. It’s something that I feel connected to Porsché because I was the same way. I had a background where books were my place where I could go and hide, and that connection brought us to a good place, so I’m happy about that. Now, buy Porsche’s book on her website and make sure to connect with her on LinkedIn.

Oh yes, and watch her TEDx talk: How Expectations Kill Your Identity

p.s. yes, there’s a little glitch where we lose Porsché for a few seconds, and I left it in because it doesn’t detract from the overall conversation, I think it adds something – like spontaneity, perhaps?

Visit her website and buy her book!

Connect and Follow her on LinkedIn

Now, watch the video and enjoy.

About Yvonne DiVita

My friends call me The Book Whisperer. I'm a Book Coach and Author advisor. I help entrepreneurs and successful business professionals put their story into a book. A book that matters. That leaves a legacy. That creates community. That helps build business and invites more speaking opportunities. A book that builds authority. I’m a writer. An author. An advisor. A former book publisher. In 2015, I was awarded the title of Woman of the Year in the Women in the Pet Industry Network. It was the most wonderful accolade and highest honor I have ever received! My favorite saying is: "It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things." How Do I Get A Real Publisher?

Feb 21, 2022

We served our authors as editors, guides, teachers, book designers, publishers, and to a small degree, marketers. At the time, we encouraged and taught them to blog. Back in the early 2000s, blogging was a successful way to get noticed. Much as podcasts are today. And we did other things to help them get noticed. The hard work, of course, was always at their end. That's just how it is. As the author, the work of marketing and selling is up to you - no matter who publishes your book.

For most people, collaborating on a book is an exciting and rewarding endeavor. Being part of a 'team' that writes a book allows multiple individuals to contribute their unique perspectives and skills to a diverse piece of work.
