Flod Planning (not a typo) for the Holidays
The “flod” I’m talking about is my favorite book-related holiday: Jolabokaflod, or Yule Book Flood, the Icelandic tradition of exchanging and reading books together on Christmas Eve. What a wonderful way to celebrate!
And what a wonderful opportunity for authors to promote their books. The Jolobokaflod tradition has its roots in both the Icelandic culture of gifting books, as “a nation of bookaholics,” and the book trade’s efforts to supply a wave of new books for giving at Christmas.
Christmas in July?
Now, Yvonne starts talking about gift shopping around Memorial Day … or is it April Fools Day? But I digress …
I’m also not talking just about the Thanksgiving through New Year’s Eve holidays. I’m a bit late getting your printable book-related holiday calendars posted for the third-quarter of 2025 (first quarter here and second quarter here).
So I decided to do the entire rest of the year. This way you can be like Yvonne and start planning for those big, end of the year holidays now! And of course, you don’t have to wait, because there are multiple literary holidays in every month.
I’ve written in the previous quarters’ posts about how authors — and any small business, really — can build creative promotions around the uncountable number of holidays that have been declared around an endless number of niches. I count 64 distinct book-related holidays from now through December — whole months, a variety of weeks, and many individual days dedicated to different aspects of writing, publishing, and reading, and shown for you on these calendars.
All I did was run a search for “2025 literary holidays” and came up with a half dozen sources to build these monthly calendars (if you’re not in the book business, substitute your niche for “literary” and you can do the same). These are made as downloadable printables, so you can write notes and start your plans on them.
So, without further ado, here are you July through December 2025 Literary Holiday Calendars:
As we’ve said before, please tag us when you’re celebrating any of these holidays in your work. We’d love to see how you use them and support your efforts with a like, comment, or share.
