20 Exceptional Things Writing a Book Can Do for You and Your Business
In June of 2019 – how long ago was that? – I wrote a blog post titled “25 Things a Blog Can and Will Do for You.”
When attempting to come up with a relevant post for our blog this week, I chose “20 Exceptional Things Writing a Book Can Do for You and Your Business.” Because books and blogs go together like, well, a horse and carriage. Or soup and sandwiches.
Home Base: Your Blog and Your Book
Think of a blog as a tool, not a platform. It’s your home base, where all the content belongs to you. Not so on social platforms. All the content you put on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok belongs to them. You are at their mercy on what you can write and who sees it.
The reason we recommend blogs for your author website is precisely because you are in control of the content shared there. Yes, share it elsewhere, but use your blog as a home base.
That’s why, when I chose to put this newsletter topic here, on the Master Book Builders blog.
Writing a book is a big project, if you write it the old-fashioned way, as we do at MBB. I say that because too many books are now being written almost entirely by AI. If not completely, then in great detail. We don’t deny that AI has its place. It’s another tool in your toolbox. I used Perplexity to help me outline this post.
But that’s all. I went through three iterations of this post before I got something I could work with. Something I could mold, twist, and turn into what I really wanted to say. I suspect that if I had merely used what Perplexity spat out, many of you would not have known. Most of what I ask the AI is business-focused, and the results are always written in a business voice.
The issue is this: it’s not my voice. I want my work to reflect my voice. Just as I want your work, your book, to reflect your voice. And that is why I say we do things the old-fashioned way, word by word, page by page, and chapter by chapter, in the author’s voice.
AI tools get quite comical sometimes. The Word tool objects to the Grammarly tool, and all of them want the book to be in a specific, grammatically correct, or boring voice that they have been taught is “professional.”
I want the book to be you. The part of you worth sharing with the whole world. In your voice, not some AI-generated voice.
By the way, much of this applies to fiction as well as nonfiction, so novelists do take notes, too.
Authority, Credibility, and Visibility
Boost Your Credibility and Authority
Publishing a book creates thought leadership. A book demonstrates your knowledge of your industry and adds value to everything you do. A book is trustworthy. It also established name recognition, as noted in this Forbes article: Book Authorship – Your Tool for Authority and Profitability:
Even if a customer doesn’t purchase your book, their awareness of your book and brand may lead to greater opportunities with your business in the future.
Distinguish You from the Competition
Who else is publishing your book? No one. Perhaps there are similar books, but no one is publishing your book. This is why your voice is so important to your book and why AI just can’t cut it as your ghostwriter. Being an author helps you stand out from the crowd.
I know there is a lot of noise out there. But not to worry! Your audience, though they may read other books like yours, will also buy your book. I’ve said this more than once: people buy multiple books by different authors on the same topic, and when they find the one that resonates – yours! – they sick with that author.
Just remember this: your cover will heavily influence reader attraction to your book. Yes, a title and subtitle are important, but if your cover design is off, those words may be overlooked. Yes, Virginia, people do judge a book by its cover.
Lead to More Media Opportunities
Being a published author makes you more appealing as a guest for podcasts, guest blog posts, news features, and media interviews. Media professionals are actively seeking authors who have a message to share as reputable sources with something meaningful to say.
Speaking, Opportunities, and Growth
Attract Speaking Invitations
Event planners are always on the lookout for good keynote speakers and presenters at conferences. Having a published book puts you ahead of the others. Published authors are recognized as good bets. Event planners want to fill their conferences with good public speakers, so make sure you have several videos of you presenting to groups, big or small, showcased on your home base, your blog. Event planners value authors for their credibility and ability to share original ideas (p.s., it helps to have a TEDx talk to show off your message; visit the link to see how you might arrange that).
Consulting and Coaching Gigs
We always recommend that our authors include a Contact Me page in their back matter. This is where you share how readers can connect with you, but more importantly, it’s your CTA telling people where to go to join your community, take a course, or sign up for your newsletter.
Generate Leads for Your Business
As mentioned above, books serve as effective lead magnets, attracting your ideal audience through calls to action and resource links. I found it interesting on Amy Suto’s blog, that she says:
So if you’re a business owner with educational materials like a blog or course, you should consider turning those into a book.
We’ve always said turn your blog or LinkedIn content into a book, and Amy has a unique take on turning that around.
Create Passive Income Streams
Books have a unique capability to generate ongoing revenue not only with each sale but through licensing, translations, and spin-off products – what we call merch or merchandise. Look how the rock stars do this. Their brand appears on T-shirts, mugs, sneakers, and all manner of products. Yours can be on bookmarks, mugs, T-shirts, jackets, and door hangers. This can add stability and diversity to your income sources.
Increase Your Rates
Fact: Most people believe published authors are smarter than they are – in other words, your book is proof that you are intelligent and worth listening to. People associate publishing a book with effort, intellect, and energy, things they believe they lack (though they don’t, and your book can help teach them that).
As a published author, you are now able to increase your consulting or coaching fees accordingly. Consider including a free book in your proposal as an incentive for people to accept it. Prospective clients are people who want a solution to a problem. If you’re that solution, and part of your work with them follows the advice in your book, there is a win-win there.
Networking, Partnerships, and Recognition
Attract Partners and Collaborators
Too many authors don’t think of the power of their written work to attract other professionals. Smart business professionals are always looking for ways to collaborate. Many of them have books, also. If you can connect with and collaborate with several other authors, either in your field of study or tangential to it, and together, you offer prospects a bundle of books, you have just gone to the head of the class.
Collaboration will create many new opportunities. Never overlook this step. If you need more information about this step, visit my blog post, “Author Collaboration for Book Events and Promotions.“

Spark PR Opportunities
Use PR to your advantage as a published author. Your book, with all of its advice and stories (which AI cannot write), gives you the ability to pitch timely, relevant angles to the press. Send a release at launch, and perhaps another a few weeks later if the book is selling well, to keep your message top of mind. Continue watching relevant current news to see if your book fits a particular news story.
The more you can relate your work to stories in the news, the more media sites will give it a chance to be shared.
Grow Strategic Networks
We don’t talk about this much at MBB. Perhaps we should. As you’re writing your book, and once it’s launched, you should network with other authors and professional organizations. This is how you meet collaborators. This is sometimes how you get out of writer’s block. Often, there are industry influencers and professional organizations you might get your work in front of.

Make Your Website and Marketing More Compelling
Adding your book to your website, with frequent updates that share stories, testimonials, and ways to connect with you, provides valuable new content, not only giving visitors a reason to engage and return but also serving SEO bots. Images, videos, and stories about you, about writing the book, and sharing testimonials make compelling content that serves everyone. Show your face a lot. People want to connect with other people.
Building Your Platform
Fuel Email List Growth
Tease out your book’s first chapter by sharing only the first page. People demand value for their information. What parts of your book are most valuable and might encourage sign-ups to your newsletter? Create a workbook or related resources in exchange for email sign-ups.
Unlock New Clientele
Your book will introduce you to new audiences and markets you haven’t even thought of. Make it easy for current clients and readers to share you – provide images and videos they can share. Show them how to write an Amazon review. Ask what roadblocks are preventing them from sharing. People love it when you ask for their help.
Enhance Confidence and Skill Set
Becoming an author sharpens your thinking and communication skills. Finishing a significant project proves you have mettle. The confidence you gain translates into better leadership, selling, and collaboration skills.
Impact and Legacy
Give Back to Your Community
We have always said a book is a legacy to you, your family, and your community. A book helps you connect with your community in a more personal way. When you open yourself to connecting and respond to emails and comments on social, you show your approachability. Your words help educate, motivate, and mentor others through the way you share humility and vulnerability, told in the many personal stories you share. This sense of service can become a fulfilling part of your professional identity and build a stronger, more vibrant community for you.
Leave a Professional Legacy
Your book is a lasting contribution—something readers and clients can use long after a workshop or coaching call. It’s a meaningful way to make an enduring impact. Think of the book Think and Grow Rich byNapoleon Hill. It was initially published in 1937, but it’s still going strong today. This quote from Galileo (taken from Tom’s book Read ‘Em & Reap) proves my point:
… writing books as a “means to communicate our deepest thoughts to any other person, though distant by mighty intervals of place and time … to those who are not yet born and will not be born for a thousand or ten thousand years …”
Open Doors to Teaching and Workshops
Many authors want to break into academia. This is a big ask. But it can be done. Our authors, Lacey J. Faught and Adrienne Harvey, saw their book, Down the Rabbit Hole: Slowing the Spread of Misinformation & Propaganda on Social Media, become their calling card, and they are eager to present to local college students and several other marketing or business organizations. Your book can become the curriculum or foundation for these opportunities.
Earn Awards and Industry Recognition
There are many contests and awards just for authors, adding to your prestige. Industry recognition from your book can serve as a launching point for further growth. Our authors have won numerous awards for their work.
Personal Satisfaction
Create a Source of Pride
Completing and publishing a book is a unique creative achievement that few accomplish. You’ll carry the pride—and sometimes surprise—of seeing your work help, inspire, and change others for many years to come.
Why not do it now?
Master Book Builders is looking for two eager writers to add to our author community for 2026. If you would like to see your book published the old-fashioned way, word by word, in 2026, fiction or nonfiction, let’s set up a welcome call and see if we’re a fit for you.
